Materials Needed
Every student will need a violin. There are many options in the Portland area when choosing a violin – it is possible both to rent or buy, or rent to own. Please wait until after the first lesson to choose a violin, as there are many sizes and options and I can help you to make sure you have the right choice for you. If, however, you have a violin already, feel free to bring it so I can take a look at it to see if it is right for you. Renting a violin from one of the local violin shops will run about $25-30 a month, with a deposit placed the first month. Ongoing costs, such as occasionally replacing strings and accessories, will also arise.
Each beginning student will need the Suzuki book 1 and accompanying cd. You can either buy these from me, or buy your own – they are widely available at music stores and online music stores such as Shar, Young Musicians, or Southwest Strings.
Parents will also be asked to read some core Suzuki materials.
